Bank Populaire Launches Morocco’s First Numberless Bank Card
Rabat – Bank Populaire has launched “La Populaire Numberless,” a new bank card that the institution describes as Morocco’s first physical payment card without a card number.
Officially launched on Thursday, September 17, the card removes the traditional 16-digit number and visual security code (CVV) from the traditional physical card. According to the bank, the design aims to reduce exposure to sensitive card details in cases of loss, theft, or unauthorized photography of the card.
Instead, customers can securely access their card details through Bank Populaire’s Pocket Bank mobile application.
The launch marks the bank’s third major payment innovation in 2026. It follows “La Virtuelle,” a multi-purpose card supporting contactless payments in stores through Apple Pay and Google Pay, and “L’Instant,” a temporary single-use card available through Pocket Bank.
Idriss Bensmail, General Manager of BCP in charge of Retail Banking, said the new card reflects the bank’s efforts to provide customers with more secure payment solutions adapted to their everyday use.
“With La Populaire Numberless, we are committed to offering our customers increasingly secure payment methods adapted to their daily needs,” Bensmail said. He added that the latest product reflects the bank’s approach to anticipating technological developments in the payments sector and applying them to customer security.
Bank Populaire said the new card is part of its broader digital transformation strategy, with a focus on payment security and adapting banking services to changing customer practices.
