Monday, 5th 10 2026

The African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jude Chiemeka as the new President, effective 30th September 2026.

Mr. Chiemeka, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and Chairman of the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), succeeds Mr. Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, CEO of the Rwanda Stock Exchange. The transition marks a significant milestone for ASEA as the association accelerates efforts to deepen market liquidity, foster regional connectivity, expand technology adoption, and promote cross-border capital flows across African capital markets.

Assuming the presidency, Mr. Chiemeka brings over 30 years of capital markets experience across securities trading, asset management, and investment banking. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal proponent of market infrastructure integration and innovation across the continent, playing key roles in pioneering regional trading initiatives and landmark transactions.

“It is a privilege to lead the African Securities Exchanges Association at a time when capital market integration and technology-driven innovation are paramount to unlocking Africa's economic potential,” said Mr. Chiemeka. “Building on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor, Mr. Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, ASEA will continue to advocate for stronger cross-border investment frameworks, deeper liquidity pools, and sustainable finance initiatives across our member exchanges.”

In his outgoing address, Mr. Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba reflected on his tenure:

“Leading ASEA has been an honor, and I am proud of the progress we have made in bringing African exchanges closer together. I extend my warmest congratulations to Jude Chiemeka. His extensive leadership across both the Nigerian market and WACMIC makes him exceptionally qualified to guide ASEA into its next chapter of growth.”

As ASEA President, Mr. Chiemeka will focus on key priorities including:

Deepening Cross-Border Market Integration:
Facilitating seamless inter-exchange trading and cross-listing across African jurisdictions.

Advancing Digital Innovation:
Harnessing financial technology and modern market infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency and retail market access.

Expanding Capital Mobility:
Enhancing ties with global institutional investors while fostering local investor participation across member states.

Promoting Sustainable Finance:
Standardizing ESG frameworks and green bond listings across African member exchanges.
