El-Sisi extends Hassan Abdalla’s leadership of Egypt’s Central Bank
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has renewed Hassan Abdalla’s mandate as Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt for one year, effective August 18, 2026.
The decision extends Abdalla’s leadership of the CBE as the central bank continues to implement monetary policies aimed at maintaining price stability, supporting the banking sector, and strengthening the resilience of the Egyptian economy.
Abdalla has served as Acting Governor since August 2022, when he succeeded Tarek Amer. During his tenure, he has overseen monetary policy amid a period of significant domestic and global economic pressures.
As head of the CBE, Abdalla is responsible for steering monetary policy, maintaining the stability of the banking and financial system, and supporting the sector’s ability to respond to changing economic conditions.
