TotalEnergies, AMNI Take FID on Nigeria’s Ima Gas Field
TotalEnergies and AMNI have approved the Ima gas field project in Nigeria, set to begin production in 2028, supplying a third of the gas for LNG Train 7 expansion.
TotalEnergies (40%, operator) and its partner AMNI (60%) have taken the final investment decision for the Ima gas field, which straddles the OML 112 and 117 offshore licenses in Nigeria, the company said. Located in shallow water near Bonny Island, Ima will be developed with a single platform connected by a 22km pipeline to Nigeria LNG, in which TotalEnergies holds a 15% stake. Production is expected to start in 2028, at a plateau of 350 million cubic feet per day, or more than 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to TotalEnergies.
Ima to Supply a Third of Nigeria LNG’s Train 7 Expansion
Once on stream, Ima will supply about one-third of the gas needed for the ongoing Nigeria LNG Train 7 expansion, which will raise the liquefaction plant’s capacity from 22 million tonnes per annum to 30 million tonnes per annum, TotalEnergies said.
Project Designed as Low-Cost, Low-Emissions Development
TotalEnergies described Ima as a low-cost, low-emissions development, with a simplified platform design, electric power supplied from shore, no flaring, and permanent methane detection and monitoring. The company said the project carries strong Nigerian content, with all key contractors being local companies, and that around 60% of the workforce is expected to be sourced from host communities during development.
